A Comprehensive Plan is a municipality’s road map for the future. It is an official public document that provides long-range policy direction for land use, transportation, economic development, housing, public facilities and natural resources. It serves as a guide for elected and appointed officials by providing a framework that can be used to evaluate development proposals and direct community growth. The Comprehensive Plan is also the basis for zoning. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN What is a Comprehensive Plan? What is a Comprehensive Plan?
RETURN HOME Village of Berkeley, IL COMPREHENSIVE PLAN Why Create a Plan? Why Create a Plan? The Comprehensive Plan allows residents and local decision-makers to identify and respond to changing community needs and desires in a thoughtful, rather than reactive way. The planning process will help us move forward in a positive and coordinated way as we address the economic development and quality of life needs of Berkeley. What Does a Plan Include? What Does a Plan Include? Berkeley’s Comprehensive Plan
will focus on land use within the community and how the current land
use pattern might change over time. The Plan will also address
issues related to the transportation network that serves residents
and the businesses that provide jobs, shopping, restaurants and meet
other service needs. The Comprehensive Plan will address topics that
include: How Can I Get Involved? How Can I Get Involved? There will be several opportunities for residents to be involved as the Comprehensive Plan is developed. Participation in focus groups and through surveys are a large part of the process. You can help us identify key issues facing Berkeley and your neighborhood, share your vision for Berkeley’s future, your preferences with respect to community change and your ideas for making Berkeley a better place to live. Each session is expected to run about an hour. As the plan is refined, and before it is adopted by the Village it will be presented to the public for additional input. |
