The Village of Berkeley, IL, has begun to move forward
with the process of creating a brand new comprehensive plan to help
guide the Village’s growth and development over the next 15 to 20
years. The Village is not alone in this effort, engaging the help of
the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning to assist in the
process of creating a regional land use and transportation plan for
the seven county Chicago region. The Village of Berkeley’s plan will
help to inform this larger effort.
The Village of Berkeley’s previous effort was a plan adopted back in
1974. In order to meet the needs of its residents and local
businesses, the Village's new plan must be updated to reflect
the pursuit of the bright future in its own motto.
The Village of Berkeley’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee has recently received its 2nd draft of the new Comprehensive Plan and has begun its review. Thanks to the nearly 100 Berkeley residents and business leaders that participated in one of four focus group sessions held back in May, and the comments made regarding the previous draft, the Steering Committee feels that a final draft is on the horizon. At this time, the Steering Committee will review the document and work with the Village Board, residents, business community and other key stakeholders to refine the goals, objectives, policies and implementation strategies in an effort to see that the final Comprehensive Plan truly reflects the community’s vision for the future. There is a public hearing scheduled for the Comprehensive Plan to be held on Thursday, February 25th during the Plan Commission & Zoning meeting at 7:00 PM in the Bicentennial Room. All are invited to attend.
