The NEW Building Department

Improving Services and Reducing Costs

The Village’s Building Department has recently undergone some important changes that will significantly improve resident service. As of May 1st, the Village’s Code Enforcement Officer Gary Williams took on an additional role and began conducting a majority of the residential plan review and inspection services for the Building Department. Prior to May 1st, these services were performed by an outside contractor.

Code Enforcement Officer Williams has been in the building inspection profession for approximately 16 years. During this time, he served as the Assistant Code Official for a private contractor and worked with 13 different building/zoning departments in the Chicagoland area. Officer Williams also served as a carpenter for 13 years which has provided him with an extensive knowledge of the construction industry.

The face of the Building Department will not change. For nearly five years, Anita Arroyo has served as the Building Department’s Administrative Secretary. As such, Ms. Arroyo has and will continue to address any questions you may have about the building permit process. She accepts permit applications and works closely with Officer Williams to see each permitted project through completion. The Building Department processes approximately 500 permits a year.

The new Building Department will not only substantially reduce the Village’s costs but will significantly improve the services provided to residents. Residents will now be able to schedule inspections on Saturdays and the Village will be able to significantly shorten the window of time for your inspection. Permits requiring a plan review will also be processed more quickly. Most importantly, Officer Williams is readily available to answer any questions you may have regarding the work you would like to do on your home.

The Village was also able to lower many of the Building Department fees including those for fence, pool and shed permits as well as the fees for plan review and inspections/reinspections.
