REFUSE &
RECYCLING PROGRAM

In the Village of Berkeley,
refuse and recycling is collected in two identifiable
carts. Each home is
provided one
cart for refuse (brown with brown lid) and an additional cart for recycling
(brown with blue lid).
The collection of the recycling cart will be on a bi-weekly basis.
This format will make recycling a lot more convenient and easier. No
more plastic bags, or trying to stuff recycling in the refuse cart.
That space in the refuse cart now can be used for garbage.
The base cost for the recycling and refuse
program includes a fair, fixed volume of capacity. If more
refuse is generated for disposal than the cart can hold in one week,
a resident may purchase a prepaid tag for each additional volume of
waste set out that week.
Residents who wish to consider
the senior convenience option container (64 Gallon) must meet the
Senior / Disability Qualification criteria: individual must reside
at the property receiving the service; be the property owner or
lease holder at the property; be 62 years old or must have a
disability requiring accommodation with the 64 gallon size
container.
To report that your garbage was missed or if
you have a complaint regarding refuse collection, please contact the
Roy Strom directly at (708) 344-5000.

furniture, grills, TVs, mattresses, tables, bicycles, etc., but do
not include appliances (see white goods). Each additional item of
the same type will require one (1) Village of Berkeley Universal
Solid Waste Tag.
Up to one (1) cubic yard of Home
Remodeling Debris / Building Materials may be set out each week in
32 gallon can(s) or in bundles of material not weighing more than 50
pounds each. Each can or bundle set out must have a Village of

YARD WASTE PROGRAM
Unlimited Yard Waste (YW) collection is provided. YW consists of

out in 30 gallon Kraft paper bags designed for the collection of YW
or in suitable refuse cans as described above. Residents are asked
if using a conventional refuse container (32 gallon can) for YW to
clearly mark the can YW. Tape and marker can be used so the markings
can be easily removed should residents wish to use the can for
refuse after the YW season. Marking the can helps to make it more
readily identifiable for collection crews. YW bags or containers are
not to exceed 50 pounds when full. Brush can be tied into bundles,
four (4) feet in length, and should not exceed 50 pounds. Do not use
plastic bags for yard waste (they cannot be ground up for
composting). YW does not go in a landfill with refuse in the State
of Illinois. Landscape waste is limited to what is generated at the
residence being serviced. Yard Waste is to be placed out by 6 AM
along with refuse during the YW collection season. YW collection
season: April 1-November 30.
Rocks, sod, bales of hay and landscape timbers are not landscape
