Brush Pick Up and Yard Waste Pick Up Guidelines

The Village of Berkeley Public Works Department will resume its Brush Pick-Up program on Monday, April 4th, picking up brush on both sides of town. Brush should be placed at the curb in front of your home before 7:00 AM on your scheduled pick-up days. Branches should be placed at the curb with cut ends facing the street and should be bundled in lengths not to exceed four feet.

Branches that are put in garbage cans will not be taken. It is requested that branches with thorns NOT be placed at the bottom of piles for the safety of Public Works brush collectors. Please place thorn branches separately at the curb.

The Public Works chipping crew will make only one pass through the Village each scheduled day. If you should miss that pass, do NOT bring your brush out until your next scheduled pick-up day. Each issue of the Berkeley Matters will include pick-up information in the calendar section so that you are prepared for your scheduled pick-up day. For your convenience, the entire brush pick-up schedule can be found in the Calendar section and Public Works section of the Village website.

For the safety of our Berkeley residents, the Public Works Department requests that residents do NOT approach workers who are operating chipping machinery such as the wood chipper and/or chain saws. For safety reasons, no one without protective equipment should approach chipping machinery.

Yard waste pick-up resumes Thursday, April 7th with your regularly scheduled garbage service and continue through Friday, November 25th (delayed one day due to Thanksgiving). Yard waste is defined as grass clippings, small twigs that can fit in a garbage can, leaves and plant materials. Yard waste can be placed in a 30-gallon yard waste bag (brown paper type) or a 30-gallon reusable container marked “YARD WASTE.” Neither container, when full, may exceed 50 pounds in weight. Yard waste is limited to only what is generated within your household and cannot include rocks, sod, bales of hay or landscape timbers. These items require special pick-up requests and can be made at 708-344-5000. Additional information regarding the Yard Waste program and all other information regarding the refuse program in general can be found here.
