I-294 Tollway Expansion

The Illinois Tollway will be expanding I-294, adding 1-2 more lanes going northbound and southbound. Specifically, I-294 will be expanded from Balmoral Avenue to 95th Street. There are six homes in Berkeley that had to be acquired by the Tollway to complete this project. The Village has worked with those homeowners since January 2018 to ensure an equitable arrangement is attained with the Tollway. Currently, Victoria Park is located on land owned by the Tollway. As part of this project, Victoria Park is slated to become a dry basin to help with flooding issues.

As part of the construction, Berkeley will have new walls erected to alleviate noise and basins installed to help improve flooding. There will also be aesthetic improvements to Butterfield Road, Electric Avenue and St. Charles Road. The entire expansion project of I-294 is projected to cost $4 billion and is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.
