Berkeley, Illinois is located just east of Elmhurst in the highly desirable western suburbs of Chicago. Located just one-half block from both the Tri-State and Eisenhower expressways, Berkeley is easily accessible to neighboring towns and connecting interstate highways.

In cooperation with the State, the Village recently completed a major road reconstruction and streetscape project along the St. Charles Road commercial area. The $8 million improvement created a smoothly functioning roadway ready for redevelopment of prime commercial parcels. With this enhancement, the average daily traffic counts exceed 17,000 per day.

Berkeley has experienced a modest amount of new housing as well as a significant amount of housing renovation. This quality housing stock and the convenience of Berkeley’s Metra station are key assets.

A well-established Tax increment Financing District, created by the Village in 2000, is located along St. Charles Road to facilitate partnerships with developers and property owners interested in property improvements. The Village created a second TIF District that encompasses St. Charles Road and McDermott Drive. 

Berkeley, located just seven miles from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, is the home to major corporations including Vanee Foods. Berkeley is also adjacent to the Proviso Railroad Yard, which is one of the world’s largest intermodal transportation facilities. The Berkeley train station is also located along the Union Pacific West Line. St. Charles Road is serviced by the commuter Pace bus system.
