Building Department
The Police Department is responsible for Building and Administration Department for Zoning which includes permitting and monitoring construction and also the sale or transfer of properties within Berkeley. This Departments are also responsible for the enforcement of building and zoning codes and life safety issues. This is accomplished by conducting building inspections as required by applicable state and local codes.
Other functions include reviewing building plans, and inspecting construction projects for both Residential and Commercial properties. Additionally, this Departments are responsible for the inspection of properties prior to the sale or transfer of a property. Inspections are conducted to ensure properties meet Village and State codes of life, safety, and property maintenance.
The Departments are involved with citizens, realtors, architects, contractors, developers and builders, and other government entities, providing assistance at every step in the building or selling process from the initial stage to the final inspection of the completed project or sale (or transfer) of a property.
