Contractor Licensing

The Village of Berkeley requires that all contractors, per Village Ordinance 02-63, have a current Contractor's License. To obtain a license, the Village of Berkeley requires a Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the Village of Berkeley as additionally insured and a $10,000.00 Surety Bond.

An electrical contractor, in addition to the insurance bond, will also need to provide a copy of the certificate from the municipality where they tested.

Plumbers and State regulated Contractors (except for Roofing Contractors) are only required to provide a copy of the Contractor's State of Illinois License for the Village's files. No fee will be charged.

The fee for a General or Demolition Contractor's License is $75.00, and all others are $50.00. The Village does allow the required information for licensing to be faxed or emailed. Please include all contact information. All licenses expire on December 31st of each year.

Prior to a permit being issued, information is required for all contractors working on a job site. All contractors must fill out a contractor application found here. In addition, general contractors also must complete this form, listing all of their sub-contractors for a given project.
