Knox Box System
Offering Security to Businesses and Residents
The Berkeley Fire Department and the Knox Box Company offer a line of safe-like devices (lockbox) that are designed to be mounted to the outside of a building that has a fire alarm or other type of fire suppression system. A key for the business or building is kept inside the box. Should the alarm activate after business hours or another type of emergency response is required, the fire department can access the building using the provided key instead of using forcible entry techniques to enter the building.
The Fire Department and the Knox Box Company also offer a line of safe-like devices (lockbox) designed to either hang from an entrance door or attach to the outside of a home. They are ideal for senior citizens or for residents with special needs requirements. A key to the home is kept inside the box. Should the resident need medical assistance, the fire department can access the home using the provided key instead of using forcible entry techniques to gain entry.
The program helps firefighters and paramedics quickly gain entry quickly in times of emergencies, thus saving lives and property without causing damage and security issues for the owner.
