Yard Waste Collection

Unlimited Yard Waste (YW) collection is provided to all Berkeley residents. YW consists of grass clippings, twigs, leaves and plant material. YW is to be set out in 30 gallon Kraft paper bags designed for the collection of YW or in suitable refuse cans as described above. Residents are asked if using a conventional refuse container (32 gallon can) for YW to clearly mark the can YW. Tape and marker can be used so the markings can be easily removed should residents wish to use the can for refuse after the YW season. Marking the can helps to make it more readily identifiable for collection crews. YW bags or containers are not to exceed 50 pounds when full. Brush can be tied into bundles, four (4) feet in length, and should not exceed 50 pounds. Do not use plastic bags for yard waste (they cannot be ground up for composting). YW does not go in a landfill with refuse in the State of Illinois. Landscape waste is limited to what is generated at the residence being serviced. Yard Waste is to be placed out by 6 AM along with refuse during the YW collection season. YW collection season: April 1-November 30.

Rocks, sod, bales of hay and landscape timbers are not landscape waste and should not be placed in yard waste cans or bags.

Please note: If a holiday falls on a weekday (Monday through Thursday), yard waste will be collected on Friday of that week. The following holidays will be observed each year: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
