Public Works Heavy Equipment Operator
Village of Berkeley, IL – Is accepting applications to become a full-time member of the Berkeley Public Works Department as a Heavy Equipment Operator. A qualified candidate will be joining a department that operates with 5 full-time staff members responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the maintenance and operation of streets, water main, storm sewers, building and grounds, forestry, open spaces, public areas and properties. A well-qualified candidate should have a class B CDL commercial driver’s license (or be able to obtain one within three months) and at least 5 years of related experience. The Village is looking for candidates that are self-starters, able to work well with others, able to work alone with minimal supervision, and are able to maintain a professional attitude when conversing with the general public.
In addition, applicants must be able to perform physical tasks and be prepared to report to work during off hours for emergencies, 24/7. Applicants must reside within 30 miles of the Village of Berkeley within six (6) months of employment. The starting salary for the position is $68,624 - $96,073 +/-DOQ. The Village of Berkeley (population: 5,200) is accepting applications for part-time Police Officer positions. The work of this class involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances. Police Officers also may be assigned duties as detectives, youth officers, crime prevention officers, department training officers, evidence technician, field training officers, accident investigators, breathalyzer operators, firearms instructor officers, DARE program officers, hostage negotiators or special response team officers. Work involves an element of personal danger. The employee must be able to exercise sound independent judgment under stress. Assignments may include work on special tasks which call upon specialized abilities and knowledge possessed by the employee. Work assignments are general, and specific instructions are received from a supervisor who reviews work methods and results through reports, personal inspection and discussion.
Part-time Police Officer Job Description
Part-time Firefighter/Paramedic
The Village of Berkeley (population: 5,200) is accepting applications for part-time Firefighter/Paramedic positions. Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, this employee provides direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to fire, rescue, hazmat and other incidents. Additionally, a Firefighter/Paramedic will respond to medical emergencies and provide pre-hospital Advanced Life Support (ALS) care to victims of injury or illness; and other similar municipal work, as assigned.
A successful candidate is required to have a minimum of one-year experience as a Paramedic and Firefighter, a valid Class B Non CDL Illinois driver’s license, a valid Illinois EMT-P license in good standing in the Loyola EMS System or enter the system upon hire, at least 21 years of age, a minimum of FF 2 / Basic by Illinois OSFM training, and to have earned a high school diploma or GED equivalent at the time of application. The nature of the work requires that the employee be capable of working outdoors year-round in sometimes harsh conditions, be capable of physically demanding work to include bending, heavy lifting, climbing, and driving.
The current stating pay for the position is $21.22 per hour. The Berkeley Fire Department is staffed 24 hours a day with employees working 12 hours shifts.
